It is very natural to see scenes on television that would never have aired ten years ago. As technology gets faster and more accessible, the average population has become accustomed to seeing violence in video games, movies, commercials, toys, magazines, and newspapers. Danny Boyle does a good job of representing society today and the downfalls violence can have on the human population. The infection, cleverly named “rage,” relates very well with society today and the increasing rate of violence in the world. In “28 Days Later”, rage is the central force for all actions made in the movie. The Role of Rage and Violence in 28 Days Later- Kacie Another use of religious symbolism that Boyle uses is the use songs such as “Ave Maria” which has a great deal of religious meaning. Coincidentally, the priest that Jim comes across is his first encounter with a human infected with the zombie disease, Rage. As Jim is trying to find civilization after waking up, he comes across a church where he finds a priest. The first obvious symbolism of religion in the film is Jim’s first encounter with an infected zombie. These two aspects when looked at together depict a birth into death cycle that continues throughout the movie.īoyle also uses incorporates a religious aspect to the plot of the story. Boyle continues this symbolism with the opposite spectrum as Jim discovers his parent’s dead.
He discovers this as he starts to explore London and notices that it is abandoned symbolizing the start of a new world. When Jim wakes up nude from a coma it symbolizes his birth into a new world.
